2012 North Bay Innovation Showcase Recap

The 2012 North Bay Innovation Showcase was a big success and served it’s purpose as part of the evolution from a series of events to an ongoing program.

For those of you who weren’t able to attend the opening hour or so was focused on networking. While networking is always valuable I wanted to try something different so we included something called Speed Mentoring which was meant to facilitate meaningful introductions that might not have otherwise taken place.

We had 5 gracious mentors, quite a list actually, each of which met with up to 3 entrepreneurs for 10 minutes or so. The usual busy-ness of this sort of event kept me from debriefing with everyone but one entrepreneur said that “10 minutes with Jack [Lance] was more valuable than the hours and thousands of dollars he’s invested in advisor services.” That’s pretty high praise.

We’ll continue to implement speed mentoring at events and may host a speed mentoring-centric events.

The four finalists who presented all did a great job with the crowd favorite beingNonProfitEasy (NPE) - you can read more about the competition recap at http://www.sonoma.edu/sbe/2012/06/multiple-winners-at-the-2012-inno…

Finally, the poker turnout was a little lighter than expected – guess all the networking wore people out. Never fear, we’ll be doing regular game nights throughout the summer so keep an eye out for the next one.
